There are over 143 million orphans in the world...that is enough children to go around the earth three times at the equator. It is an overwhelming number of children.
These are children that lay me down to sleep in foster homes across the United States;
in orphanages around the world;
on street corners and park benches...
It can paralyze a person into doing nothing...into turning their backs on the needs of the children. It can fill you with sense of hopelessness and despair. Or, it can challenge you into action.
I want to ask you to look beyond the numbers and into the faces of the children. I want to encourage you to choose a ministry to support. I want to ask you to link arms with an organization. There are children that need your help.
This morning I received a phone call from Jeanel, the orphanage director at God's Children in Haiti. He asked if I thought we had room for two more babies. One was brought from Cite Soleil, otherwise known as Haiti's most notorious slum. The other was a newborn which the mother had tried to kill because she had no means to care for him. Do we have room? How can we not have room?
And so I ask you again to take action, in whatever means the Lord calls you to.
Perhaps it is to adopt,
Perhaps it is to give of your time,
Perhaps it is to give of your finances,
Perhaps it is to give of your talents.
But, certainly it is to pray.
